Schedule

The typical events occurring during sewer lining construction looks like:

  • Set-up traffic control for the safety of workers, drivers, and pedestrians (as necessary)
  • Establish a temporary sewer bypass system allowing workers to line the sewer in question
  • Perform sewer lining operations from one access manhole to the next
  • Re-establish sewer service connections to the newly lined sewer (does not typically require excavation)
  • Remove traffic control measures before moving on to the next section of pipe lining
  • Restore disturbed areas to similar conditions as before construction per City of Centennial requirements (generally minimal or no restoration is required)

Neighborhood Impacts During Construction

  • Noise
    1. Contractors communicating, operating equipment and vehicles, backup beepers, etc. all generate more noise than typical.
  • Unplanned Service Outages (includes water, gas, electric, internet, and phone)
    1. Excavation is typically minimal for sewer lining projects.
    2. On occasion excavation is required to address unforeseen issues experienced during sewer lining. When this occurs, the contractor will take great care not to damage existing utilities, but sometimes utility owners do not locate existing utilities in the dig area effectively (including Southgate).  Hitting an existing utility with the excavator will typically result in a service outage. Note that these outages may not be reported to residents directly.  Call Southgate’s office for updates on unplanned service outages.
  • Road and Sidewalk Closures
    1. Lane closures will be required daily with approved traffic plans by City of Centennial
    2. Notifications regarding “No-Parking” zones will be posted prior to construction on your street
    3. Access to driveways may be temporarily impacted while the contractor operates sewer lining equipment. Equipment is generally set up at existing manholes.
    4. Please mind the “No-Parking” zones – ignoring no parking zones could result in towed vehicles
    5. For your safety, avoid the active construction areas and do not walk through construction zones
  • Increased Traffic
    1. From the contractor executing work, inspectors making site visits, and detoured drivers to avoid construction zones
  • Construction Materials Stored in the Streets
    1. The contractor may have construction materials temporarily stored in the streets in anticipation for construction
  • Paving
    1. Excavation is not likely, but should it be required, the contractor will re-pave the street in accordance with City of Centennial standards at the end of the project
